Modern Language. French Policy

Most of the pupils studying French at St Vincentís have had little if any experience of the language before coming to St. Vincentís. Those pupils who have studied any French at all seem to have experienced little or no success with the language.

AIMS
• To create opportunities for each individual pupil to achieve success according to each pupilsí capabilities.
• To ensure that learning French is an enjoyable experience for every pupil.
• To motivate and encourage every pupil to have at least a basic understanding of spoken French and to be able to understand and answer simple questions on the topics covered.
• To raise pupil self-esteem through achievement.



OBJECTIVES
Through the study of the four attainment targets, realistic and achievable goals are set for each individual pupil.
• Goals to be clearly explained to pupils.
• A variety of approaches to teaching French is used, depending on the theme being covered and the capability of the pupil.
• Throughout the study of French genuine skills such as tolerance, appreciation of others, co-operation, concentration and perseverance are encouraged. Pupils will at times work on their own, in groups or engage in whole-class activities.

There is regular assessment and Certificates of achievement are awarded.
