The course in Geography is designed for a wide range of ability of pupils. It covers areas which employers regard as essential for many jobs in Industry and Commerce. This course deals specifically with:
A: Knowledge of the location of major towns and areas in the British Isles and Europe.
B: A basic knowledge of international geography, incorporating population and economic studies.
C: The practical application of map work skills for every day purposes

The course is compatible with the locational geography and skills requirements of the Common Curriculum

The main aim for our pupils at St. Vincents are;

• To raise self-esteem through achievement
• To encourage and motivate all pupils towards realistic and achievable goals
• To encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own work practice and learning
• To help pupils become aware of literacy *(Assessment – there is regular on-going assessment and end of unit assessment.)

In St. Vincent’s there is a strong emphasis on literacy across the curriculum. Listening, reading and writing is encouraged especially through knowledge and use of subject terminology.

Personal skills such as effective communication is developed through opportunities for exploration, investigation, problem solving and decision-making. The use of ICT is strongly encouraged.

Geography is a ‘Life Education’ subject which is interesting, enjoyable and fun.
