Development of knowledge, understanding and skills in History will be encourage in all pupils according to their own capabilities. Pupils are encouraged to realise and understand that History is about real people and real events. Yesterday is History, today is the present and tomorrow is the future.

AIMS

• To raise pupil esteem through achievement.
• To develop knowledge understanding and skills at a level suited to each pupil.
• To ensure positive and meaningful learning through the setting of realistic, achievable goals for each pupil.

OBJECTIVES
• Pupils will study aspects of the past in outline depth and from a variety of perspectives and viewpoints.
• Pupils will have opportunities to development historical skills and concepts.
• Chronological awareness.
• A range and depth of historical knowledge and understanding .
• Interpretations of history (e.g. how and why accounts differ).
• Historical enquiry (e.g. using a variety of sources).
• Organisation and communication.

ACHIEVEMENT
At present History is taught up to Key Stage 3 in St. Vincentís

ASSESSMENT
There is regular assessment and certificates of achievement awarded.

Recently a group of pupils have been studying WWI. A strong emphasis was placed on empathy during the topic, especially when investigating trench warfare and the Battle of the Somme.
