PSE GCSE Social and Environmental Studies


At present in St. Vincent's year 11 and year 12 pupils follow the GCSE course. This is done through 4 modules;
• Health and Safety
• Family life and Parenthood
• Rights and Responsibilities in the Law
• Opportunities for Adult working LifeThe modules and informative for the pupils.

They develop life skills such as:
• A First Aid Certificate
• The 'Needs' of babies and young children.
• The necessity of a healthy lifestyle
• The relationship between diet, exercise and health.
• Career opportunity and skills needed.
• They develop strong links with their career officer.
• Develop individual and team work.

The pupils seem to enjoy doing the course. They can clearly see the relevance of what they are learning now for later life.

During the course pupils are:
• Encourage to development skills of investigation and enquiry.
• To take responsibility, especially through the coursework, for their own learning and work practices.
• To 'know' themselves better - their strong points and weak points and to try to improve in areas they feel weak. This comes across strongly when studying Family Life and Parenthood.

All aims and objectives throughout the course are clearly stated to the pupils and set at a level for each individual pupil.
